After relaxing on the beach, splashing around in the pool, and hanging out in the hotel, sometimes what your vacation needs is some entertainment to shake things up. The area is packed with attractions of all kinds, including a handful of state-of-the-art movie theaters in Myrtle Beach. And in addition to the latest Hollywood blockbusters, a few of our local theaters also host film series events throughout the summer for your viewing pleasure. Sure, you could rent a flick or stream some Netflix it in the room, but movies are so much better when seen in their natural habitat — on the big screen! And for series movie buffs, the Grand Strand is also home to the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, which features world premieres by filmmakers from around the globe.

Now in it’s 10th year, this festival showcases films of all shapes and sizes with categories like Animation, Feature Project, Documentary, Music Video, Shorts (30 mins or less), and Anything Goes. MBIFF has also been recognized by Movie Maker Magazine as one of the top 25 festivals to submit to, and hailed as a “ground-breaking” film festival by Film International. There aren’t many better ways to enjoy a summer evening under the stars than watching a movie on the big screen, especially when it’s free. With all of the great events in attractions going on in Myrtle Beach, it can be easy to spend a little too much money. But stick with us and we’ll show you how to spend little or no money at all! During the warmer months, there are several area venues that host free or $1 movie series’ geared towards kids, including Grand 14 at The Market Common, Frank Theaters in Murrells Inlet, Cinemark at Coastal Grand Mall, and Rivertowne Stadium in Conway.
